How white will my teeth get with one teeth whitening treatment?
Your results will depend on the starting shade of your teeth. People with lighter yellow shades in their teeth usually get brighter results with one treatment verses people with darker yellow, brownish or grayish shades. If your teeth are in the darker category, you may need to do a second treatment at an additional appointment.
Will teeth whitening damage my teeth?
Absolutely not! Our professional grade teeth whitening system is a peroxide-based gel that does not harm the tooth in any way. Teeth are porous, so the gel works its way into those pores to clean out the stains and brighten the color of your teeth. After your treatment, you will need to avoid eating and drinking anything with color in it (other than beige or white) for 24 hours. This will allow the natural shiny barrier of your teeth to reseal the pores back to the way they were before the whitening treatment.
How long will my teeth whitening results last?
It depends on your eating and drinking habits and your genetics. If you eat and drink foods with dark colors frequently, then you may need to do another whitening session every 6 to 12 months. If not, you may need to be able to go longer between whitening sessions. Genetics also play a roll in how frequently you will need future whitening treatments.
Will teeth whitening make my teeth more sensitive?
No, the teeth whitening gel we use has been specially formulated by a dentist to eliminate any risk of sensitivity after your whitening session. Other whitening products have been reported to cause temporary tooth sensitivity, but ours truly has not.
How much time does it take for one whitening appointment and what is invovled?
You should plan on an hour and a half total for your appointment time. We will professionally polish the film off of your teeth first, insert the gel mouthpiece, then position the LED warming light in front of your teeth to activate the gel and clean out your stains. The light will stay on for 40 minutes. Then we will remove the mouthpiece and have you brush out any remaining gel. You will have some eating restrictions for the next 24 hours. You can only eat or drink things that are white, beige or clear. We will provide you with a list of suggested foods and drinks.
What if I have bonding, fillings, crowns, caps and/or veneers that show when I smile?
Teeth whitening gel will not be able to change the color of bonding, fillings, crowns, caps, or veneers, but a lot of times they are whiter than your natural teeth if they were originally put on when your teeth were a lighter shade. If this is the case, then they will end up blending in better with your natural teeth after your whitening session. If this is not the case, then you would have to replace that dental work with your dentist in the new lighter shade you achieve after whitening.
Am I a candidate for teeth whitening?
Yes, if you are at least 14 years old, are not allergic to peroxide, do not have visible tartar buildup on the outside of your front teeth, and are not pregnant or breast feeding.
